Protect California kids online
Big Tech platforms are designed to maximize revenue by increasing engagement and facilitating data collection, which puts children at risk. Research has linked the pressure to spend more time on digital media platforms and the harmful content they are exposed to with the growing mental health crisis in young people, increased risk of sexual predation, and decreased overall wellbeing in kids and teens.
Two bills being considered in the California Assembly have the potential to protect millions of Californian kids and families from the negligence of Big Tech companies: the bipartisan Social Media Platform Duty to Children Act (AB 2408) and the bipartisan California Age Appropriate Design Code bill (AB 2273). These two bills would help keep young people from encountering risky design features in the first place, and provide families and caregivers with tools to hold Big Tech accountable for putting children at risk.
Tell your state senators: vote for AB 2408 and AB 2273 and make California a leader in protecting young people online!
