Create a safer internet for kids

Two bills that protect kids and teens online rights and privacy passed through committee and will be voted on by the full senate. If passed, these bills would go far in creating a healthier media environment for children. We need your help to urge senators on the committee to pass both pieces of critical legislation!

Design choices made by tech companies manipulate users to stay online as long as possible and expose children and teens to inappropriate and harmful content thanks to algorithmic amplification and poor oversight. These bipartisan bills, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) (S.3663) and COPPA – an update to the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (S.1628), will require online platforms to put children’s privacy and wellbeing ahead of tech companies' profits.

I am calling to urge [NAME OF SENATOR] to create a safer internet for young people by co-sponsoring both the bi-partisan bills Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) (S.3663) and COPPA 2.0 – an update to the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (S. 1628).

The business model of Big Tech is fundamentally opposed to children’s wellbeing. Children and teens should be able to engage freely with the digital world without being manipulated into spending more time online, paying money, surrendering their data, or engaging with harmful content. These bills would provide important protections for young people as well as tools for families to hold Big Tech companies accountable for harming children.

We are in a crisis. Big Tech has proved it cannot regulate itself. Kids’ safety online will only improve if guardrails are put in place and platforms are required to treat children like children. Please, co-sponsor Senate Bill 3663 and Senate Bill 1628 and help give American children and families the internet they deserve.
